Sunday October 11th, 2026
I have a sunny Sunday afternoon and I’ve been fighting between nap and productivity.
August - October have been non stop with teaching duties, art and family wedding things.
I have to ask myself in overwhelm “Why do I feel the need to sell my art, to create art business goals that use up my free time?”
What would my life be like if I ceased the business side of my art.
Would I have a spotless house? Would I walk my dogs every day? Would I be bored senseless? Maybe I’d write a novel.
Do I do it out of obligation? Possibly because I started so how can I quit when ? Optimisticly I hope it does this come from passion, admiration and self belief.
It’s a question I should take to my journal before a public blog. But at this moment, I think I do it because I grow from pushing myself. I value art for art sake and sharing my creative endeavors. Being an artist is the only lifelong commitment I’ve made. I don’t see a life without it, and I don’t want stagnation.
Then moments happen like a commission request.
I discover that a person has been admiring my work for years. Waiting for the right time. Thinking about their circumstances and finding a way to fit my art into it. What a compliment!
I finished this commission today. And I love it. It’s soft. It’s mature. It’s calm and vibrant.
It’s sunset peaking through a wooded landscape.
I love that I get to be the person who says “I can’t go out tonight, I’m working on my commission.” I’m bringing a thought to life with my soul.
It’s spiritual.
